Commenting on the inspiration behind the movement, as was told to the Deccan Chronicle, designers Ankur and Priyanka Modi of AM:PM said, “Romantic movements emerged in the late 18th century as a response to the socio-economic upheaval brought about by the Industrial Revolution. Countering the explicit rationality of the Enlightenment and the restraint of Neo-Classicism, Romantics embraced the imagination, emotion, the grandeur of nature and an idealised nostalgia.”
However, designer Lalit Dalmia speaking to Deccan Chronicle, cautions, “When experimenting with this hyper feminine aesthetic, moderation is key.”
Ella Alexander of Harper’s Bazaar, in her article “The soft power of the romantic dress” writes that “Our notions of power dressing are changing, and so rises the armour-like romantic dress”.
Romanticists in today’s world strut their stuff reflecting their evolved attitudes and emancipated status. The days of power dressing for women sporting suits and pronounced shoulders, and figure hugging dresses are waning. We see an increase in a different, yet impactful type of attire, the presence of Romanticists shielded by their softer strength.
All in all, adopting a Romantic styled persona, requires just a few elements that may already be in your wardrobe, you need to just add small bits of it to your regular ensembles. An important element without a doubt, is lace.
